Did you know that procrastination is a common symptom of ADHD? Do you know why? Have you considered telling your colleagues or supervisor(s) about your ADHD diagnosis? Have you ever heard of body-doubling? Not the Hollywood kind... the "Hacking Your ADHD" kind. These are all things I've learned from listening to the podcasts outlined here.
But I know how easily overwhelmed we ADHD'rs can feel sometimes, so I'm not just listing a bunch of Podcast titles for you to start following and listening to. Although, I would highly recommend any/all episodes from all of the following Podcasts!

I am going to make it simpler for you so you don't have to spend precious seconds thumbing through all the episodes of these shows to find one that's just right. I've already done that for you...

The Top 5 ADHD Podcasts for general awareness, tips, tricks, and community building...

I spent weeks listening to handfuls of episodes from each of the following Podcasts and hand-selected one episode from each that I thought would be the most helpful for you or anyone looking to better understand their ADHD and not feel so alone in their daily struggles and challenges.

  • ADHD for Smart Ass Women
  • ADHD Support Talk Radio
  • ADHD Rewired
  • Hacking Your ADHD
  • I Have ADHD Podcast

I suggest searching for these titles in whatever app you use to listen to your favorite podcasts, and following all of them... like,  immediately. (Go on. Thank me later).

If you've never listened to a podcast before or don't have a regular podcast-habit, my preferred app is Spotify. But I've also used Stitcher and the Apple Podcast app as well.

If you already pay for Spotify premium, just stick with Spotify! They make it so easy to collect all your shows, downloads, and even make playlists.

Everything is so easily accessible with Spotify--plus, I just say, "Alexa, play The Science of Happiness podcast," and she'll pick up playing from wherever I left off, even if I was listening on my iPhone or in my car.

(BTW--BONUS MATERIAL: I couldn't recommend The Science of Happiness podcast enough... it's my go-to Sunday-afternoon-while-straightening-my-room-and-doing-other-chores podcast.)

5 best podcast episodes to understand people who have adhd

1. EP: 22 ADHD And Procrastination With Dr. Christine Li (click to listen on Spotify) from ADHD for Smart Ass Women with Tracy Otsuka
Picture
Tracy Otsuka is just brilliant. From her beautifully crafted opening message where she lists well-known and successful people with ADHD to her obviously meticulous and thorough research, she is always sure to deliver the most meaningful and eye-opening ADHD content. Plus, she's just fun! Look at that podcast image!

WHY YOU SHOULD LISTEN:
Quotes from This Episode
“Disorganization is a problem for many of us. Because we don’t have a linear brain, we’re more apt to procrastinate.”
“What is procrastination protecting us from? From seeing the parts of us that we wish were a little bit stronger, were a little bit better developed, were a little bit smoother—that part of us that has difficulty putting things in a sequence, that has difficulty showing up on time, that has difficulty feeling not broken. Procrastination can be this all-encompassing umbrella for the things that we want to keep secret and out of view.”

2. Combat Negativity and Thrive with ADHD (click to listen on Spotify) from the ADHD Support Talk Radio Podcast
Picture
ADHD Support Talk Radio Podcast is an award-winning Podcast for adults with ADD / ADHD. It seems silly to say that this episode will help you realize that combating negativity is important. But this episode was a major eye-opener for me; I didn't realize that ADHD'rs are affected by negativity differently than the average person... and as such, need to combat it differently.

WHY YOU SHOULD LISTEN:

Quotes from This Episode
“One of the things that really gets in the way is negativity[…] People are not realizing that the negativity is impacting them. And it’s important to identify and begin combating it.”
“We get in our own way and when you have ADHD, especially those who are just getting diagnosed with or identifying it, if people have gone through decades of life being told they’re not good enough, that becomes their natural thought pattern...then you don’t believe you’re capable of being successful.”

PODCAST PRO-TIP
for People On-The-Go:

Most of these episodes are long enough
(or short enough, depending on your perspective) to listen to on your morning and/or evening commute.

For the longer ones, start it on your
morning commute, and finish it
on your way home
.

Whether you're walking, taking public transit, driving, or arriving by carrier pigeon, podcasts are the perfect accompaniment no matter where/when you're going.

3. 253 | Self-Advocacy and Disclosure: LeDerick Horne (click to listen on spotify) from the ADHD reWired Podcast
Picture
ADHD reWired was one of the Podcasts that my psychiatrist suggested I listen to when I was first diagnosed... and I'm so glad she did. The intro blurb kind of says it perfectly: "This is the podcast for those of us with really good intentions and slightly wandering attention." They also have a free secret Facebook group for more support and community.

WHY YOU SHOULD LISTEN:

Quotes from This Episode
“There is risk involved in self-disclosure, especially in work environments [...] Sometimes it’s great to front load it; sometimes it’s better to show that you can do the job and then mention it. But it’s something that some of us have to do to relieve the emotional pressure and fear that can build up in many of us.”
“When you’re not having to put in so much mental energy on masquerading as normal, your brain actually relaxes and then you can actually show up in your best capacity.”

PODCAST PRO-TIP
for People Who Have the Luxury
of Taking 25+ minute Lunches:

There are some days that you just need to eat alone. And not be social. On these days, listen at lunch. I bet you'll go back to work feeling not just enlightened, but understood.

And that's a powerful feeling.

And if you always eat alone... you're a step ahead of the game here. Look at you being ahead... *high five* Go, you!

4. Compassionate Ass-Kicking for the Win (click to listen on Spotify) from the Hacking Your ADHD Podcast
Picture
This podcast is part of the ADHD reWired Podcast Network. And this episode specifically highlights how important accountability is for ADHD'rs. Not being shamed into doing things... just having a system to help you follow through on the things you want to be doing. How many projects do you have started (and not finished)?

WHY YOU SHOULD LISTEN:

Quotes from This Episode
“When I can’t count on myself to get things done, I need to turn to others to help me out. And a lot of us with ADHD can have trouble asking for help, but you don’t have to do things alone. And one of the best ways others can help us is through accountability.”
"Part of the ADHD reWired Coaching and Accountability Groups is something called 'Adult Study Hall,' which is just a web conference room [...] When I need to get work done, I just log in and jump on camera [...] just having someone there is a great way to keep you on track."

PODCAST PRO-TIP
for People Who Shower:

By the time you fast forward through the intro blurb and any ads that may be on the show, even the 30-minute episodes can be listened to through your whole
shower process.

Example Shower Process:
Undress, wash, clean, shave, rinse, dry off, brush teeth/hair, apply deodorant, lotion, make-up, style hair, get dressed.

This is the perfect time to
have a podcast playing.

5. How to Prioritize with ADHD (click to listen on Spotify) from I Have ADHD Podcast with Kristen Carder
Picture
I can't say enough about how relatable Kristen is. Her content is real, relevant, authentic, and everything you need to hear. Just this line from how she began this episode would have me clicking to listen: "I am medicated, I am caffeinated, and I am ready to roll..." In this episode she also mentions a book she's been reading, so if you're a Tony Robbins fan, you'll want to plug into this one. Kristen is also an ADHD coach!

WHY YOU SHOULD LISTEN:
Quotes from This Episode
“What I have found is that we really struggle to put things in any kind of order of importance because what it feels like to us is that everything has an equal level of importance.”
“When I didn’t know where to start, I would become completely paralyzed and I would just avoid my list altogether and not get anything done.”

    Emilee  with  3E's

    I'm a 30-something single-ish lady who is enjoying city-life & a philanthropic career... most of the time.

Except of course when I'm crippled by the symptoms of my recently uncovered triple-D's: C-PTSD, ADD, & PMDD.

Should I change my name to Emilee With3E's and DDD's?

C'mon.. walk a [e]MILE[e] in my shoes! I have a great Sperry collection!
(As I always say, "Dress for the boat you want.").

(Truthfully? Mine are really only double). Keep reading...

    A  Note  from  Emilee:

Hey all! I hope if you've read this far that you've also read my About Mee page.

I am writing this note to say that I will use the following terms somewhat interchangeably throughout my writing, even though I do acknowledge their distinct differences:
      1.  PTSD / C-PTSD
      2.  ADD / ADHD

I am diagnosed with C-PTSD and ADD, which basically means my PTSD symptoms are more 'C'omplex than the average PTSD patient's, and I'm not 'H'yperactive; I just have an attention deficit.

However, the more commonplace terms are PTSD and ADHD. They are seen/heard/read about more,  as opposed to their counterparts.

So, if I don't need to make any specific  differentiations pertinent to the discussion about my symptoms of either C-PTSD &/or ADD, I may use 'ADHD' and 'PTSD' instead as blanket terms that should be interpreted as ways of also referencing my actual diagnoses.

If you have a concern about this, please, by all means, contact me and let me know,

The last thing I want is to offend someone with insensitive language, and I'd love to hear your perspective.
